They\u2019re very clever little fellows and have discovered our cats\u2019 feeding bowl so scurry along to see if there are any tasty leftovers.<\/p>\n<p>One rainy night I moved the cat food bowl inside and guess who came into the house to gobble it up? We just managed to catch the hedgehog cat food thief on film!<\/p>\n<p><\/p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KzdypbRCKSM\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>And here he is trying to hide by my boots!<a href=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hedgehog-in-the-House.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7722\" src=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hedgehog-in-the-House.jpg\" alt=\"Hedgehog-in-the-House!\" width=\"690\" height=\"485\" data-pin-media=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Hedgehog-in-the-House.jpg\"><\/a><br>\nOur little hedgehog visitors have inspired some <a title=\"Autumn Crafts \u2013 Cute Hedgehogs\" href=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/autumn-crafts-cute-hedgehogs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lovely hedgehog model making<\/a> and of course lots of research into their habitat and habits.\u00a0The children have loved finding out about hedgehog hibernation and wanted to be able to help the hedgehogs have a cosy and safe winter by making a hedgehog house (hibernacula). They\u2019ve called it \u201cThe Hibernation Station\u201d which I think is just lovely! Hedgehog numbers are declining so it would be great if you could have a go too.\n<p>You can buy ready made hedgehog homes but they are quite pricey. We made our polystyrene hedgehog house from a polystyrene box that my dad got a frozen meat delivery in as it has excellent insulating properties.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #28d0d7;\">Supplies To Make a Polystyrene Hedgehog House:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>(This post contains affiliate links. We found that scoring the polystyrene with a knife allowed us to then simply snap it.<a href=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hedgehog-house-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7709 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/kidscraftroom.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/hedgehog-house-5.jpg\" alt=\"Hedgehogs numbers are declining! a brick\/stone or two to stop it blowing away in strong winds and to position it with the entrance facing South to protect it from cold winds.<\/p>\n<p>We are going to cover our hedgehog house with some branches too and will be scattering a pile of fallen dried leaves around it too as hedgehogs would naturally use these to hibernate in during the winter.<\/p>\n<p>More Fun <a
