With a simple dyed spaghetti base this Halloween sensory play activity stimulates kids senses and lets them enjoy imaginary play while they mix up their own magic potion. They can delight in adding anything they think a good witch or wizard should add to a gruesome concoction. Perhaps spiders from the Halloween decoration box, or twigs from the garden?<\/p>\n

Kids can pretend it\u2019s guts, brains or worms and add lots more disgusting things to it. Ewww!<\/p>\n To dye your spaghetti first cook it according to the instructions on the packet but cut the cooking time down by a couple of minutes so it stays a little firmer for playing with. Remove it from the heat and rinse it under lots of cold water immediately to stop it from softening further.<\/p>\n Spray the spaghetti with a little oil to prevent them sticking and divide it between two bowls.<\/p>\n Add green food colouring<\/a> into one bowl and red and yellow food colouring<\/a> into the second bowl.<\/p>\n Mix the colours into the spaghetti really well to leave you with a bowl of green spaghetti and a bowl of orange spaghetti. (You might want to use plastic gloves for this bit.) Of course you could mix up any colours you like.<\/p>\n Let the spaghetti sit for 30 minutes and then you should be able to play with it without it staining your hands.<\/p>\n Pop the spaghetti into a plastic witch\u2019s cauldron<\/a> if you have one and if not any large plastic container will do.<\/p>\n Now your little witches and wizards can enjoy the potion halloween sensory play experience and add in all sorts of other things. Small Halloween themed toys<\/a> like plastic eyeballs<\/a>, spiders and insects work really well as do things from the garden like twigs, leaves and pebbles. If you don\u2019t mind the mess of glitter<\/a> then a sprinkling of this really can make the magic seem real!<\/p>\n Spaghetti sensory play is also a great way to build motor skills too.
