How To Make Sponge Flower Paintings
1 – Sponge Flower Painting works best if the paint is a little on the runny side so we like to mix our paints with a few drops of water in a bowl.
2 – It can be helpful to draw the flower stems and leaves onto your canvas with marker pens before you start painting. You can of course add some grass and anything else you fancy. Maybe a little ladybug or butterfly too.
3 – To start your flower painting dip the dishwashing sponge into one of your paint colours. Lift it out of the paint and let any excess drip off for a second or two.
4 – Gently dab the sponge head onto your canvas to make a print. We did a yellow print first in the corner to make a sun before moving on to the flowers.
5 – To change paint colours wash the sponge and squeeze it dry with a towel. I like to have a washing up bowl of soapy water next to the children so they can wash the sponge right where they are rather than having to get up and go to the sink each time. You can of course buy multi sets of sponges so there’s less need to wash.
6 – Continue to dip the sponge into your paint colours and print the flowers onto the top of the stems you drew.
