Do your kids love all things circus? Release their inner clown and have fun learning how to make juggling balls using this easy no-sew method!

We came across this no-sew method for making juggling balls a couple of weeks ago at a local circus skills workshop the NDCS put on for my son and other deaf children in the area. The lovely teacher gave us permission to share their idea with you.

Simple circus skills for kids are a great way to develop gross motor skills, balance and co-ordination in children of all ages and grown ups can have loads of fun with them too!

Lots of the equipment can be made at home cheaply and easily like our rainbow dancing ribbon and musical shaker and today I’m going to show you how to make juggling balls using a seriously quick no-sew method! It’s an easy activity to set up at home and works really well as a group activity too, perfect if you’re thinking of hosting a circus themed play date or a kids circus party.

How To Make Juggling Balls (No-Sew Method)

These juggling balls are super easy to make and nice and soft and squishy for little hands. They can be made in single, dual or mixed colours so you can match them to your personality and favourites.

Step One

When learning to juggle it’s really helpful if all your balls are all the same shape and size. We’re going to fill our juggling balls with rice, so to make them evenly sized mark a plastic cup with the amount of rice you want to use in each ball. (We used half a small plastic cup but the exact amount you’ll need will depend on the size of your balloons and you may need a bit of trial and error getting the correct amount for your first ball.)

Step Two

For each juggling ball measure your rice and pour it into a sandwich bag. Twist the sandwich bag closed making sure you’ve expelled all the air. Pull the remaining bag over the ball of rice and twist it shut again. Repeat until the whole length of the bag is used and you have a tight neat bag of rice.

Step Three

Cut the neck off of your balloon and put your bag of rice right inside the balloon.

Step Four

Cut a slightly bigger neck off a second balloon and put the balloon covered bag of rice inside, hole side first. You can use two balloons the same colour or contrasting colours like we have in the picture above. Basically that’s it! Now you know how to make juggling balls using the no-sew method in just a couple of minutes! If you want to add some more decorations to your balls read the final step below.

In the picture above you’ll see that we’ve made a blue juggling ball with two balloons the same colour and then we’ve added three coloured bands. Adding coloured bands is really easy! Remember those balloon necks you cut off earlier? All you need to do is cut the thick rolled end of a balloon neck off and stretch the remaining piece over your juggling ball.
