I love offering kids paint experiences that go beyond the standard use of a paint brush and paper and regular readers will remember our Sponge Painting and Wax Resist Leaf Painting, such fun!

Recently we’ve been enjoying enjoying another dynamic way to create vibrant art through painting with marbles with every colour of the rainbow! It’s a fabulous activity for exploring color mixing.

Marble painting is a great activity that kids can physically get actively engaged with and I adore that it can be done on a small, big or gigantic scale and works just as well for individual and collaborative art pieces too.Have fun creating dynamic art with colorful marble painting. Supplies For Rainbow Coloured Marble Painting

  • Bright Paints
  • Multi Sectioned Paint Palette
  • Marbles US
  • Teaspoons
  • Paper
  • Scissors
  • Container as large or small as you like. e.g baking tray, cardboard box

How To Set Up Your Rainbow Marble Painting Activity

Start by squirting different colored paint into each section of your paint palette. If you don’t have a paint palette then a muffin tin or individual bowls would do.

It’s lovely to let the children choose what colours they want and to have a go at squirting in the paint themselves. They might want all the colours of the rainbow or just one or two. However many they choose they’ll enjoy seeing the patterns form when they start rolling their marbles.

Pop a marble into each paint colour and roll it around to get it covered in paint. A teaspoon can be a really handy tool here.

Prepare your paper and tray for rolling. You can keep things small scale and cut a piece of paper to sit inside a baking tray or take it up to a huge scale and tape the back of pieces of paper together to make an enormous canvas to put inside a large cardboard box.

If you are able to go BIG then it makes a wonderful activity to do with your child or for a group of children to work on together collaboratively.Have fun creating dynamic art with colorful marble painting. Kids will love experimenting with painting and color mixing in a new and physical way.

Once your paper and tray is ready use the teaspoons to put the marbles onto the paper.Have fun creating dynamic art with colorful marble painting. Kids will love experimenting with painting and color mixing in a new and physical way.

Now the children can enjoy creating their marble painting by tipping, tilting and turning the tray in any direction they chose.Have fun creating dynamic art with colorful marble painting. Kids will love experimenting with painting and color mixing in a new and physical way.

Kids can have fun experimenting with:

      • Different sized marbles.
      • Different thicknesses of paint…what happens if you add water to the paint to thin it?
      • Using wet or dry paper.
      • Observing the colors mixing….how many colors did they start with? How many colors did they finish with?
      • Changing speeds…what happens when you tilt the tray quickly or slowly?
      • Changing direction.
      • Moving the tray to a favourite rhythm or beat.
      • Working together with someone else.
