I’m so excited to be sponsored by Bostik today, to bring you this gorgeous Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft, and it has a free printable template too! With summer just around the corner and play filled beach days looming, this jellyfish craft is a great way for kids to get creative and run around to let off steam.

Scrape painting is a super fun art process and the free printable jellyfish template makes it super simple too.  The jellyfish windsocks have long flowing tentacles that are so fun to watch billowing in the wind.

The kiddos can hold the windsocks in their hands and run or swish their arms to make their jellyfish swim. When the kids are all tuckered out these beach themed windsocks can be hung up to make pretty room decorations too.

We’ve decorated our jellyfish windsocks using a scrape painting technique. It’s such a fun art process and we just love the results. Scroll on down to see how to do it. If you don’t fancy scrape painting you can still use the printable jellyfish template and decorate it with pens, crayons, collage or anything else that takes your fancy instead.

To help us make our jellyfish windsocks Bostik sent us some of their Glu Dots and Blu Sticks to try. Thank you Bostik, they were perfect for the job! I like how the Blu Sticks enable kids to see exactly where they are gluing and how mess-free, instant and strong the Glu Dots are, as I didn’t need to wait for them to dry!

How To Make A Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft

Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft step 1.

1 – Print 2 of the free jellyfish templates onto cardstock and cut them out. (Get yours at the bottom of this post.)

Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft step 2.

2 – The scrape painting technique we used for the jellyfish is really easy and fun for kids of all ages. Pop your jellyfish onto a tray or old newspaper and squirt on a few drops of different coloured paint.

3 – Cut out a small rectangle of old cardboard to make a scraper and sweep it across the paint drops.  Wipe any excess paint that collects on the scraper onto some kitchen roll.

It’s great fun to experiment with different colour combinations and watch them mix and blend. You can also have fun trying out different ways to move your scraper. You can go top to bottom, side to side, or make waves or zigzags. Anything goes!

Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft step 4.

4 – When your jellyfish bodies are dry, use your Bostik Blu Stick to glue on the eyes. I really liked how the kids could easily see where they’d put the glue because it showed up blue…then it dried clear, like magic!

5 – Finish off the jellyfish faces by drawing on a smile. We thought it was really fun to do a different face on either side.

6 – To make your jellyfish tentacles cut some lengths of coloured crepe paper and holographic curling ribbon. You can make them as long or short as you like. Ours were about 45cm. Attach them to the back of the jellyfish in a row using Bostik Glu Dots.

I loved how well the glue dots coped with this task and how mess-free and instant they were. Crepe paper has a bumpy texture and curling ribbon is really shiny, so traditional stick or liquid glues aren’t very effective and take an age to dry. We just popped on our Glu Dots, peeled away their backing and stuck on our tentacles. They attached brilliantly, instantly and gave a really secure hold, perfect for withstanding lots of wind and play!

Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft step 7.

7 – When you’ve added all your tentacles it’s time to join the two jellyfish halves together to make a windsock. Gently bend your jellyfish and glue the two side tabs together to make a loop.

Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsock Craft step 8.

8 – Finish off your jellyfish windsocks with a handle. Each template sheet comes with a rectangular handle, so you can use one for a short handle or both joined together for a longer handle. Attach them with a Glu Dot on either end and your jellyfish are ready to play with straightaway. There’s no waiting for glue to dry and your handle will be really secure too.

Now you can take your Scrape Painted Jellyfish Windsocks outside and swish them around to see the tentacles move in the wind.  When you’ve finished playing hang them up for a fun summer decoration.
