How To Make a Colourful Paper Turkey With Curly Feathers!

Step 1 – Start by cutting a large brown paper circle for the turkey’s body, a small brown paper circle for the turkey’s head and a large fan shape, of any colour, for the turkey’s tail.

Step 2 – To make the curled paper strips used to make the colourful turkey feathers, Stack together all the paper colours you want to use. Then cut them into small rectangles, cutting through all the colours at the same time. (Ours were about 2.5 inch by 1 inch or 5cm by 2cm.)

Step 3 – Keep the coloured paper rectangles in stacks and wrap them around a pen or pencil to make them curl. (It’s much quicker to cut and curl multiple pieces of paper together, rather than one at a time.)

Step 4 – Keep cutting and curling paper rectangles in lots of different colours until you have a handful. It won’t take long if you stack the paper before cutting.

Step 5 – Now the fun craft really begins, decorating your colourful turkey. Start by gluing a row of curled paper strips to the bottom of the turkey body. Just apply a dab of glue to the end of each piece of curled paper so the rest is free to curl upwards.

Step 6 – Repeat the process with another line of colourful curled paper slightly overlapping the first. Mix and match the colours in any way you like.

Step 7 – Keep repeating the process until the whole of the turkey’s body is covered in colourful curled paper strip feathers.

Step 8 – Trim off any overhanging bits of paper from the top of the turkey body.

Step 9 – Cut a yellow paper triangle to make the turkey’s beak and a little red snood.

Step 10 – Glue the snood, beak and googly eyes onto the turkey’s face.

Step 11 – Glue the head onto the turkey’s head.

Step 12 – Cut two yellow feet.

Step 13 – Attach the feet onto the bottom of the turkey.

Step 14 – Finally glue the turkey’s tail onto the back of the turkey.

Now your turkey craft with paper curls is finished and ready to go on display! What an adorable turkey for Thanksgiving Day!
