Have fun building structures with sweets. Such a fun sculpture activity for kids.
My kiddies love sweets, I doubt there are many that don’t! I do try to keep things healthy though so generally we leave sweets to a ‘Friday Treat Day’ at the end of a busy week.
This sweet sculpture for children activity helps me feel less guilty about them having sweets as they have so much fun with them first and it can be really creative and educational too, and great for practising fine motor skills.

- cocktail sticks
- Jellied sweets like midget gems, wine gums or marshmallows
How To Make Sweet Structures
- It’s so, so easy, you simply use the sweeties to secure the cocktail sticks in place to make flat or 3D shapes, patterns and pictures. It doesn’t get much simpler than that does it?
What do you think your little ones will try making first? My children go about it in very different ways, one is very structured and methodical and wants to make a specific thing and the other is more free flowing and experimental and enjoys making patterns and random structures and the third lies somewhere in between. It’s a great family fun activity to bring out everybody’s creativity whatever their style.
Maybe you could have some sweet sculpture maths fun with 2D and 3D shapes?
Or you might like to spell out words or your names?
How about a family competition to see who can build the tallest tower?
You could even make some simple sweet kebabs, great to enjoy on a summer picnic, party or movie night.
(If you’re trying this activity with very young children you might prefer to use dried spaghetti and giant marshmallows for easier handling.)
