Join us to make gorgeous SNOWMAN LUMINARIES. It’s such a wonderful winter craft for kids!

This snowman craft looks adorable when it’s glowing with a battery tea light inside and will still look pretty darn cute during the day too with his button eyes and cheeky smile don’t you think?

One of the things I love about Winter is the warm and snuggly feeling that early dusks and long evenings give.  I’d adore to spend my entire Winter curled up on the sofa with gallons of hot chocolate, a hamper of biscuits, a pile of good books and gorgeous lanterns and luminaries flickering on the shelves!

Now of course I can’t spend the entire Winter on the sofa but I do plan to have a few good evenings there. So to set the scene and get things all snuggly I love to indulge in some luminary crafts at this time of year.

A few weeks ago we were enjoying our pretty Leaf Luminaries and regular readers will also remember our Tin Can Lanterns and Colourful Mason Jar Luminaries from last Winter; these have been so popular with you guys and lots of you have been making them as gifts for loved ones, which is always so nice to hear. We’ve got ours on our living room mantle and I still adore them a year on!

Today I’m sharing Fluffy Snowman Luminaries with you. This is a lovely easy luminary craft that even tiny tots can enjoy helping with.

This snowman luminary looks adorable during the day when you can see it’s fluffy texture and button features and also at night when it’s glowing from within with a battery tea light.

He’s actually made on a recycled milk jug base so it’s a frugal and easy to set up snowman craft for the kids!

Supplies For Snowman Luminaries

  • Plastic Milk Jug
  • Elmer’s Glue US / UK
  • Cotton Balls US / UK
  • Large Wooden Buttons US / UK
  • Flower Buttons US / UK
  • Felt
  • Flameless Tea Lights US / UK

How To Make Snowman Luminaries

You and your kids are going to love how easy these snowmen are to make. Start off with a washed plastic milk jug and cut out a little rectangle towards the bottom on the back. You need to make an opening big enough for your battery tea light to fit into.

Next, doing a side at a time, cover your milk jug with Elmer’s Glue and stick on your cotton balls. To make the cotton balls go further you can easily split each one in half before sticking them on.

Once your snowman luminary is looking all fluffy and snowy it’s time to add his eyes, mouth and carrot nose.

We used felt for his nose because it’s really easy for the kids to cut into shape. And for his eyes we used large wooden buttons. I got this set from Amazon and really must buy some more. We’ve used them for all sorts of crafts, they are nice and cheap and really pretty.

Take a peek at how lovely they look on our no-sew Burlap Owls too. The snowman’s mouth was made with some small wooden flower buttons but you could use whatever you have handy.

No snowman is complete without a cute hat so we cut out a circle of felt and tied it into place with a length of twine.

Once all the glue has dried you can enjoy putting a flameless tea light inside your snowman luminary and watch him shine.

We’ve got a couple on either side of our fireplace where we can enjoy their cosy glow in the evenings. Now I just need to make that hot chocolate and grab the biscuits!
