I think reading should always be monstrously good fun and never a chore! I decided to make some soft fluffy bookmarks with the kids that they could enjoy snuggling up with while they read and that would bring a real sense of fun to their reading time.
We headed to Boyes to find some fabric and picked out some fun, colourful and cuddly faux fur. They have such a great range it was tricky choosing just a few colours! My youngest is already keen to go back and buy some bumble bee stripes and ladybird spot fur too!
When we got home we grabbed the glue gun, some felt scraps and googly eyes and got busy crafting our cute monster bookmarks. It took just a few minutes to make each one and we adore how they came out!

Supplies to make Monster Bookmarks
- Faux Fur
- Felt Scraps
- Low Temp Glue Gun
- Googly Eyes
- Scissors
How To Make A Monster Bookmark Craft
1 – Cut out a piece of faux fur fabric approximately 30cm by 20cm.
2 – With the fluffy side facing, glue all along one 30cm edge with your low temp glue gun. (Take care when glueing and use your judgement as to whether or not you want your children to use a glue gun. You might prefer the glueing to be adult only. Some guns make the glue hot enough to burn!)
3 – Fold the fur fabric in half lengthways and press the two cut edges together to make a tube. The glue should only take a minute to set.
4 – Turn your fabric tube fur side out and place the seam at the back. Cut out some feet shapes from your felt scraps and use the glue gun to fix them into place inside the bottom of your tube. Then glue the tube closed leaving the feet poking out.
5 – Cut out some scrap felt monster teeth and horns and glue them into place on the top of your fur tube.
6 – Finally bring your monster bookmark craft to life by glueing on some cheeky googly eyes and closing the top of the tube.
