The kiddies were very excited to receive this wonderful gardening starter kit as part of the MoneySuperMarket #KidsGrowWild challenge. It contained everything they needed to encourage those green fingers. Isn’t it just gorgeous?

Gardening Fun

We live in a city and only have a courtyard which I’ve tried to brighten up with some potted plants. It meant that the smalls weren’t able to dig and plant out in open ground which is a shame but they decided they’d like to make some window boxes to pretty up the front of the house instead. They chose the pansy seeds that came with the kit and had a great time doing it all themselves and shared out the tasks really well. I think the only disappointment was for Biscuit who found that the gardening gloves were just too small for him so he had to make do without.

Here they are filling the first window box with compost. they did make me laugh as they were so insistent that it had to be completely lump free and even!

Next they scattered in the tiny seeds. Crumb soon found that the gloves were too thick and bulky for this task…

…and try as he might he couldn’t pick the seeds up with them on.

It was much easier with the gloves off!

Once the seeds were in place, Biscuit enjoyed covering them over with a light layer of compost and then Crumb watered them in (perhaps a little too enthusiastically!)

Now we just have to wait for them to grow. We’re all really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed it will be a success and spur the children (and me) on to try growing other things from seed too.

And while we were waiting for the first shoots to appear we got busy saying hello to a few friends we found on the way. Here’s Cedric who unfortunately was a little camera shy!
